FAQ: Keyboard Function Key User Guide

    F1 - Expand

The Expand function key will give you help and/or a table of choices for most data fields throughout the Advent system. This feature is available when you see the word '-Expand-' appear in the bottom right hand corner of the processing window.

    F2 - Additional Functions

The Additional Functions function key will open a menu of choices for additional processing power.

    F3 - Dataview

The Dataview function key gives you a number of alternate ways to look at your deal archive and inventory records very quickly.

    F4 - Memo

The Memo function key allows you to attach a memo to any name, vehicle or deal record in the Advent system. The memo is always the first thing that a user will see when that record is recalled to their screen. Memos are unalterable and provide an excellent audit track of tranaction history. Memos are defined by typing the organisation and are sortable and reportable, giving the user valuable anecdotal information regarding people, cars and deals.

    F5 - Help

This is a wild-card function key which is used in various places in the Advent system. When it is available, it will be indicated to the user on the processing window.

    F6 - Save

The Save function key initiates a write command to save a partially complete record. It also saves a deal record and assigns a deal number to a working deal in Sale Control. When pressed at the main Control Selections menu, it displays Advent's contact information.

    F7 - Edit

This is another wild-card function key.

    F8 - Exit/Abort

The Exit/Abort function key is used to exit a record without saving any changes made to that record. This can be particularly useful if you make a mistake, or if you hit a key by accident when viewing a record and you want to exit safely without changing the record. This key can also be used to step back through a heirarchy of menus. At the main Control Selection screen, it can be used to log you out of the Advent system.

    F9 - Exit/Save

The Exit/Save function key is used to save changes made to a record and exit the current screen. This is probably the most often used function key in the system. When used at any other screen (one of the menu screens for example) it functions similarly to the Exit/Abort key, except that it sometimes skips some of the smaller sub-menus that you may have used to navigate through Advent.

    F10

This is another wild-card function key which is used in various places in the Advent system. One of it's uses is to submit a credit request on a prospect/customer. When it is available, it will be indicated to the user on the processing window.

    F11 - Validate

This is another wild-card function key.

    F12 - Fast Deal

The Fast Deal function key is used to turn on/off the 'Fast Deal' functionality of the deal screen, as indicated by the highlighted keys next to most of the fields on the screen. Fast Deal allow the user to input/change a field by pressing a "designated highlighted character" instead of using the arrow keys to move to the field that you want to change. For example, to assign a RS number 12345 to a deal you would type 12345J.
