What is Advent E-mail?

Advent E-mail is accessed through <F3 - Mail> from the Control Selections Menu. The four mail selections are listed below:

  1. View In Basket
  2. View Out Basket
  3. View Sent Mail
  4. Create New Mail Message
The In Basket

The In Basket lists all new mail, and any mail the user received previously and did not delete. Messages in the In Basket may be displayed, printed, or deleted, and may also be replied to or forwarded. A 'Status' column indicates whether mail is unread [U] or read [R]. The mail is sorted in the order it is received, with the most recent message first.

While displaying a mail message from the In Basket, the user may print, forward, delete, or reply to the message.

The Out Basket

The Out Basket contains all mail which has been created by the user but has not yet been sent. Sending a message removes the message from the Out Basket and puts it in Sent Mail.

From the Out Basket, the user may create a new message, or edit, delete, display, print, or send a message already in the Out Basket.

Sent Mail

Sent Mail contains all mail messages which have been sent by the user. Messages remain in Sent Mail until deleted by the user. The mail is sorted in the order it is received, with the most recent message first. While displaying a mail message from Sent Mail, the user may print, forward, or delete the message.

From Sent Mail, the user may create a new message, or delete, display, print, or forward a sent message.

Create New Mail Message

As you have seen, the user can create a mail message from any of their baskets. This menu option allows the user to create a mail message without having to first open a basket.

When mail is created, the header screen is used to specify the mail destination (To) and the mail subject (Subject). The 'To' field can be expanded to an Address Book with the <F1 - Expand> key. The 'To' field should list comma-separated email addresses. Spaces will be automatically removed from this field.

When replying to or forwarding an email, the header screen will complete the 'To' and 'Subject' fields for you.

In the Address Book, the space bar toggles selection of an email address. Selected email addresses are marked with an 'x'. Pressing <F9 - Exit/Save> exits the Address Book and adds all selected email addresses to the 'To' field of the header screen.

Once the information has been entered into the header screen, pressing <Enter> brings the user to the edit screen where the message is created. From the edit screen, the user can press <F1 - Change Header> to bring the header screen back. Pressing <F9 - Exit/Save> will ask the user if the message should be sent immediately. Messages which are not sent are put in the Out Basket. Messages, which are sent, are put in Sent Mail. If there are no entries in the 'To' field, the option to send the message will not display, and the message will automatically go in the Out Basket.
